We started with grooming because it is the part of pet ownership most people quietly dread — and the part where the right tool changes the experience the most. Whatever we add next has to clear the same bar: we have to be able to say exactly who it is for, and who it is not.

How we choose

Edited, not thin.

Most pet shops sell everything and can tell you very little about any of it. We would rather stock a handful of things and be able to explain exactly who each one is for. That rule is what decides whether something joins the range — not the category it happens to sit in.

01 — Focus

One job per tool

Nothing in the range is a variation on something else in the range. If two tools did the same job, we would drop one. That is why the shop looks small — it is edited, not thin.

02 — Honesty

We say who it is not for

The rotating brush is built for cats. The 3-in-1 shower head is for dogs. Every listing says so plainly, because a tool bought for the wrong animal ends up in a drawer and costs us a customer.

Every product page states its material, its dimensions and its packed weight. At these prices you are entitled to know exactly what turns up before you order it.

The start

How Whiskever started.

Whiskever is run by a husband and wife, and it started with our cat, Roofy.

Anyone who has tried to groom a cat who has not agreed to be groomed knows the problem. Roofy is loved a great deal and has strong opinions about brushes. Most of what we bought for her was designed for a patient dog and sold with a photograph of one — too coarse, too loud, or too awkward to hold for the thirty seconds a cat will actually give you.

So we started paying attention to what worked and what did not, and Whiskever grew out of that. Grooming is where we began because it is the part we know best, and because getting it wrong is genuinely miserable for the animal. It is not where we intend to stop.

What has not changed since: everything we stock has to survive weekly use, say plainly who it suits, and be something we would keep in our own bathroom cupboard.
