the cat allergy and over-grooming diary

A cat often hides the itch. You see the bald patch, not the licking. Map the patches, score the grooming each evening, and write every change. Then your vet sees the pattern, not only the bad week.

map the patches.

Many cats groom in private, so the fur is your record. Shade each bald or thin patch on the drawings, number it, and measure it again every 2 weeks. Then you see if it grows back.

is it stress?

stress is easy to blame.

In one study, 21 cats were sent to specialists for "stress" over-grooming. 16 of them had a medical cause of itch, and only 2 had stress alone. The litter, stress and flea records give your vet the facts.

good questions.

Does it tell me why my cat over-grooms?

No. Only your vet can find the cause. The diary records the patches, the grooming, the food, the litter box and every change, so your vet sees the pattern. Your vet chooses the tests, the trial food and the medicines.

My vet says it may be stress. Is the diary still useful?

Yes. Stress is easy to blame. In one study, 16 of 21 cats sent to specialists for "stress" over-grooming had a medical cause of itch (Waisglass and others, 2006). The stress log and the other records help your vet decide.

How long is a food trial for a cat?

Your vet decides. In a review of the research, 80% of food-allergic cats were clear by 6 weeks and 90% by 8 weeks (Olivry and others, 2015). The weekly trial check has room for 12 weeks.

My cat goes outside and hunts. Can I still use it?

Yes. The outdoor and hunter notes and the daily log record time outside and every catch. Ask your vet what to do about time outside during a food trial.

Which paper size do I get?

All of them. The download has US Letter, A4 and A5, each in a colour and an ink-saver edition. That is 6 PDF files in one ZIP file. Each diary is for one cat: print a new copy for a second cat.

How do I get the diary after I pay?

Wix, our checkout provider, emails you a download link as soon as your payment goes through. The link works for 30 days. Download the ZIP file and save it. All sales are final; if your file is broken or never arrives, we fix it fast.
