the cat end-of-life and memory book
Cats hide pain, and the signs are often small: a new hiding place, a missed litter tray, a scruffy coat. This book helps you record each change for your vet, plan ahead while your mind is clear, and keep the memories. It never tells you when to say goodbye. You and your vet decide together.

write each small change.
Cats Protection says cats are very good at hiding pain: they show small changes in habits, not a limp. Write each change on the day you see it, then call your vet. Do not be afraid to go sooner rather than later.

hiding, litter, coat and jumping.
More hiding, eating less, toileting outside the tray, a scruffy coat, slow to jump down, even purring at odd times. The checklist comes from Cats Protection and the Blue Cross.

Decide where, who will be there, and what happens after: individual or communal cremation, burial, a paw print or a lock of fur. Then you do not have to decide in shock.

good questions.
Does the book tell me when to put my cat down?
No. Cornell Feline Health Center says there are no strict rules: the decision is usually made jointly by you and your vet. The book helps you record how your cat lives at home, so that your vet can see the changes with you.
How do I know if my cat is in pain?
Cats are very good at hiding pain. Cats Protection lists signs such as hiding more, sleeping more, being slow to jump down, a scruffy coat, crying in the litter tray, and eating less. Some cats purr in pain. If you see a change, call your vet.
Why plan aftercare before the day?
Cats Protection and the Blue Cross say that it helps to think about the choices before the appointment, when you are not in distress. The book lists the usual choices: individual cremation, communal cremation, burial, and keepsakes such as a lock of fur.
Should I get a new cat to keep my other cat company?
The Blue Cross advises not to rush. A new cat is likely to be very stressful while your other cat adjusts to the loss. The book has a page to note changes in your other pets, and when to see the vet.
Can I use it after my cat has died?
Yes. The grief pages and the memory book are for after: how you feel, guilt and doubt, support lines, telling children, your story, memories from family and friends, and a letter to your cat.
How do I get the book after I pay?
Wix, our checkout provider, emails you a download link as soon as your payment goes through. The link works for 30 days. Download the ZIP file and save it. All sales are final; if your file is broken or never arrives, we fix it fast.
