know when to call.

The Ohio State University oncology team says to call at once if a dog on chemotherapy skips two or more meals, has any vomiting or diarrhoea, is lethargic or has a fever. Page 2 lists the signs, and holds the oncology, vet and emergency numbers and your team's own rules.

compare with normal, not with yesterday.

In a 2026 University of Surrey study, owners kept a daily diary for dogs on chemotherapy and found it easy. Tiredness, drinking more and poor appetite were the most common signs. Owners were unsure what to compare with, so this diary scores each sign against normal for your dog.

good questions.

What are the side effects of chemo in dogs?

The 2026 AAHA Oncology Guidelines say most chemotherapy plans for dogs are well tolerated, with side effects that are usually mild and manageable. In a 2026 University of Surrey study, tiredness, drinking more and poor appetite were the most common signs, then diarrhoea and vomiting. The University of Missouri says more than 80 percent of patients are managed at home.

When do chemo side effects start in dogs?

Ohio State University says stomach and gut side effects most often come 2 to 5 days after a treatment. The University of Missouri says they usually start within 3 days and last 3 to 5 days, and low blood counts come about 7 to 10 days after. The daily diary has a "day after treatment" column, so you see your dog's own pattern.

When should I call the vet during chemo?

Ohio State University tells owners to call at once if the dog skips two or more meals, has any vomiting or diarrhoea, is lethargic, has a rectal temperature over 102.5 °F, or shows any other sign that worries you. Your own oncology team may give other rules. Page 2 of the journal holds them, with the phone numbers.

What is the difference between grade and stage?

The AAHA Oncology Guidelines say the grade describes how the cancer cells look under a microscope, and the stage describes the size of the tumour and whether it has spread. A needle sample gives results in 0 to 2 days; a biopsy takes 3 to 7 days and can give the grade. The diagnosis page has a box for each.

Does the journal tell me which treatment or medicine to use?

No. The journal never chooses a treatment and never names a medicine or a dose. Your vet and oncologist decide. The journal has pages to copy the plan, the treatment calendar and each medicine exactly as written, and a page of questions to ask before you choose.

What if treatment stops working?

Ohio State University says that when the drugs no longer control the cancer, the vet talks with you about keeping your dog comfortable. The journal has a page for that time. For the last weeks, the Dog End-of-Life and Memory Book has a good and hard days calendar, questions for the vet and pages for memories.

How do I get the journal after I pay?

Wix, our checkout provider, emails you a download link as soon as your payment goes through. The link works for 30 days. Download the ZIP file and save it. All sales are final; if your file is broken or never arrives, we fix it fast.
